With the round top wire fit the "L" shaped ends into the holes in the base of the door, the wires should just fit under the two tabs on the upper part of the door. Bait the hook inside the trap with a small piece (about a one inch square) of half cooked bacon OR kipper .(securely wire this bait onto the hook with fuse wire)
Lift the single wire attached to the top of the trap forward so that it rests on the top of the trap facing you. Push back on the round top loop of wire attached to the door until it rests on the top of the trap.and at the same time lift the single wire up through the loop on the door and hold it away from you.... this should hold the door open. fit the very end of the single wire into the loop above the setting hook. Place in the vicinity of rat activity. do not touch or move the trap again unless the bait has been removed. if the ground is waterlogged place the trap onto a brick or similar object. Make sure there is enough clearance above the trap for it to operate Rats

When handling rats, use precautions to avoid the possibility of disease transmission Use rubber gloves. Apply household disinfectants at recommended concentrations to rodent droppings, nest and surrounding area, and allow for at least 15 minutes contact time before removal. Clean the area with paper towels or a mop. Double bag the disinfectant-soaked cleanup materials securely in plastic bags and tie up the tops. Thoroughly wash hands with soap and water and dispose of gloves. Trap maintenance, periodically lubricate all moving parts using a smear of petroleum jelly. When the trap is laid up out of use wrap the whole trap in an oil soaked rag. As with all live capture, The trap is only as good as the person setting it.
