We often here at TrapMan get asked about licensing, rules and regulations around trapping and yes we know a thing or two but we thought it would be useful to note a few things down for you.
Our most popular item this week has been our Larsen Centre Decoy trap with a centre decoy compartment and two top entry catching compartments. We shall use this as an example of what to look out for with licencing laws. Defra.gov.uk states that traps must be made from suitable material to prevent harm to the decoy bird. Traps must be checked on at least every 24 hours and the decoy bird must be provided with food and water at all times, an appropriate shelter and suitable perches whilst in the cage.
About Our Larsen Centre Decoy Traps
We try our best to make our traps compliant where possible to help you tick a few boxes before you start trapping. Our traps are made out of heavy gauge 1” x 1” wire mesh and electro plated after manufacture for a long lasting hard wearing finish. Our decoy compartment is large enough for a magpie to spread its wings and we provide you with 2 long perches and a shelter to keep your decoy bird comfortable and active. Where possible we try to provide you with as much as we can to aid you on your trapping journey including our helpful setting instruction video.
What about placement of the Trap?
Traps must not be placed on or near a public right of way or near livestock. It is also important to consider what to do if you catch a non target species.
Please note –
We do sell items in different countries where the laws differ, it is your responsibility to check the licensing and rules in your area. If you are unsure check with government guidelines for your area or other conservation websites have helpful tips such as BASC
